How it Works
UroLume® is implanted in the urethra in an outpatient procedure (usually in 10-30 minutes).¹ The stent is a braided, flexible wire mesh tube that is placed within the urethra to hold it open with a constant, gentle outward force on the urethral wall. It is placed at the portion of the urethra that passes through the external sphincter muscle.

This ensures that the external sphincter muscle will not stop urinary flow out of the body. Unlike other treatment options, the UroLume stent does not damage the external sphincter muscle. Therefore, it provides an effective and potentially reversible option for treating urinary complications from DESD.
